The past few months, we have been bombarded with bad news. As a result of the pandemic, we have been protagonist of a serious health problem throughout the world, but also conflicts has arisen in other areas such as economic, social, political, among others. For the same reason, today I want to deliver a positive and hopeful message within a complex reality.

On one hand, our company is in an area that has not been as affected as others, since in general terms we have been able to give operational continuity by having an essential role in the economic development of the countries where we operate. However, export markets have had a major impact on Enaex’s budget. Clearly, the future is not assured, but if we continue doing things the right way, we believe that we are going to overcome this crisis with bruises, but not risking the business sustainability.

Another good news comes from Europe, which began to live a new reality with the decrease of infections, meaning the opening of some markets that generates hope for the rest of the world.
I personally think that the most positive and important to thing to highlight in this crisis are you all: all the people who have not dropped their arms from the production plants, work force or from teleworking. On the contrary, you have shown that the Enaex Spirit is real and lives in every single team. This is how I could write many lines telling the different achievements we have ha despite the adverse scenario.

I will only tell you some of them that fill me with pride and I think it is important to share with everyone. In the operational field, we have manage to give continuity to the business by being very respectful with all preventive measures of contagion and demonstrating that our priority is LIFE. This is how, countless global and private initiative have emerged that really stand out and has helped that the numbers of infected at company level so far has been limited.

Commercially, I want to highlight the concession of new contracts with Hycroft Resources and Development from the USA, Zaldivar Mine from Chile and a contract renewal with Constancia from Peru for three more years. Another important achievement was that in May we sent a significant shipment to Australia of 10,000 tons of Ammonium Nitrate, which among other things, helped us not to collapse the stock.

These have been tough times for all, but these good news that I have briefly told you is a clear example of commitment and support from all teams. For this reason, as the leader of Enaex, I can only thank each one of you for the support and effort to allow our company to continue operating, never forgetting our main value: LIFE.

A year and a half has passed since our VP of Customers Experience & Digital Transformation was formed, led by a multicultural group, focused on crosscutting projects for the entire Company, and it is already paying off with the global customer satisfaction survey, the introduction of conventional detonators from Brazil to Chile and the alignment of a common blasting software.

This time I want to focus more on the digital transformation, due to contingency of the last months we have faced a scenario that has exponentially accelerated the implementation of technologies.

A clear example of this was the implantation in Chile of an app to know the daily health of hoy collaborators, which to this day has helped to identify suspected of infection, taking all prevention and care measures within our reach. In addition, the digitalization of our daily life has changed the way we relate. A few month ago we had face-to-face collaboration, today Microsoft Teams allow us keep a great level of collaboration remotely, without losing the essence that characterize us.

Remarkable progress has been made in the Enaex Bright project and by the end of the year we hope to have the three first modules running with 30 trucks distributed between Antofagasta Minerals, Collahuasi and Sierra Gorda. This is a very important project, since aims to meet the needs of our customers.

Also, we have been working in a new IoT system (Internet of Things) based in the Bright technology for Davey Bickford’s blasting machines. This will allow teleservice to know what conditions they are in, update the firmware’s and know the status of the batteries, saving traveling times and keeping an efficient inventory according to the needs of the equipment.

In order for employees to use time in higher added value jobs, we are already applying Robotic Process Automation (RPA) for repetitive tasks. Supply, accounting and finance areas have already successfully applied this technology. Likewise, Human Resources are about to start a project aligned with the RPA’s in order to enhance and optimize the times.

Finally yet importantly, Augmented Reality Assistance will allow the collaboration between experts in a subject with colleagues presents in plants and mines. Thanks to a display, a collaborator will be able to give information, while on the other side a person in the field clarifies their doubts regarding their procedure.

However, it would be pointless to award these entire giant advances in digital transformation to just one area. Is has undoubtedly been a collaborative work among different areas of the company, where the projects works thanks to the dedication and commitment of the teams. We are only the facilitators, our internal clients are who make each of the projects come true.

Solidarity during coronavirus

Because our priority is LIFE, our company is committed with the social development of the communities where we operate. This is how we have been supporting Calama and Mejillones for a long time in the generation of long-term value-added projects and in the professional technical education of young students.

Due to the complex health situation in the country caused by the coronavirus, our company has made more than 20 donations to municipalities, hospitals, firefighters, governmental organizations and various social organizations in these cities. On June 9th, the Quatro Barras plant, Enaex Britanite’s main office, reached the milestone of 2,000 days without lost time accidents. Keeping that exceptional mark is a daily challenge that is only possible when we put Life first. Prillex America complex has received ISO 14001 certification after meeting every requirement. This marks a new milestone in our 100 years, reaffirming our commitment with the environment and sustainability.

What does this certificate means? The ISO 14001 standards certifies that the company is responsible and can demonstrate our commitment to protect the environment and prevent pollution. This involves controlling it regulatory requirements and the associated environmental aspects and impacts in their processes and managing them optimally and sustainably through the chain of command.

In addition, this helps to save costs thanks to the continuous improvement, such as the reduction of waste and a more efficient use of natural resources, acting in the prevention of environmental accidents, sanctions and fines for non-compliance with the legal norm.

CUSTOMER PULSE

Since our vocation are our clients and we want to be empathic and solve their needs, the Global Marketing area has made accessible to the entire company, a continuous measurement tool for customers satisfaction in real time.

This online methodology, called Customer Pulse, allows 24/7 access, both to clients to evaluate and for teams of our subsidiaries to review their results. It seek to generate corrective actions in teal time to client’s problems, opening a direct communication channel to reinforce the generation of closer relationships by identifying their needs before they become long-term dissatisfactions, without having to wait the results of the annual satisfaction survey.

We started at the end of 2019, with a pilot in Enaex Britanite and extended to all quarry customers in Sao Paulo, and will spread to all clients in the different segments in Brazil. At the same time, the VP of Chemicals and Enaex Argentina will also begin programming and its subsidiary in Colombia and Peru are in the information compilation phase.

World environment day

On June 5th was World Environment Day

In this sense, Alexandre Claude agreed to explain to us his role within the environment department.

“My job is HSE technician in the Environment Division.

The role of the environment department is to ensure that our industrial activity is environmentally friendly and in compliance with regulations. This involves integrating the environmental aspect into new projects, our regulatory compliance, providing answers to environmental problems (the field is vast, the plant is old, and the regulations change every day) and running the environmental system, also with a view to maintaining ISO 14001 certification.

To sum up, my missions goes from the management of non-pyrotechnic waste to the assessment of chemical risk. (Integration of MSDS / monitoring of exposure at the workstation…) From carrying out risk analysis in the context of certain issues to drafting the hazard study about the risk of major accidents and the follow-up of the annual mandatory declaration on water, energy, etc. to raising awareness among staff. Energizing and monitoring the environmental action plan in order to continue improving our environmental impact etc.

The future and last actions are for example: the suppression of certain discharges into the natural environment or the access to new channels of recovery for our waste in order to avoid their burial, or the maintenance of our ISO 14001 certification.

Today the environment is integrated into our business activity. Everyone, sometimes without knowing it, contributes and participates in limiting and controlling our environmental impacts. Fortunately, this is not limited to the environment department!. We are only animators and guarantors of the environmental system, we must convince and motivate our colleagues.

Beyond the professional context, the subject is at the heart of concerns, we hear about it every day, it is difficult not to feel concerned when we see the effects of human activities on the planet and the forecasts for the years to come. This is why I love what I do, it goes through the field, the office and exchanges with people, helping them.
