The vision of being the most prestigious company in our industry, by delivering world-class blasting solutions in the most important mining regions worldwide, is the objective we have set for our future. In order to achieve this dream, we have developed 12 strategic initiatives, that form our roadmap towards that objective. One of them, which we will be addressing in this issue, is the development of underground mining.
[/vc_column_text][/vc_column_inner][/vc_row_inner][/vc_column][/vc_row][vc_row][vc_column width=”1/2″ css=”.vc_custom_1592532718733{padding-right: 3% !important;padding-left: 3% !important;}”][vc_column_text]This type of mining is gaining ground every day, with estimates indicating that almost 60% of open-pit mines will evolve into underground deposits to extract the minerals.
One of the reasons for this evolution is that this method of exploitation allows for the improvement of the ballast/mineral ratio of the mine, which, in turn, increases operational efficiency and makes it viable to extract mineral at great depth. In short, it improves the planning of the exploitation while expanding the useful life of mining deposits.
A second variable that drives the underground exploitation of the mines is that it has a minor impact on the nearby communities. In fact, this method of exploitation considerably reduces the emission of particulate matter into the atmosphere, allows for reductions in noise pollution and generates smaller quantities of waste rock to be disposed of.[/vc_column_text][/vc_column][vc_column width=”1/2″][vc_column_text]This type of mining involves a great challenge as it operates with groundwater, different types of soil and the tunnels that make the deposit deeper and deeper. Our commitment is to accompany our clients by generating innovative solutions that allow a more efficient underground operation, with higher safety standards and that are aligned with our purpose of improving the quality of life in the mining activity.
I invite you to read the article from Edmundo Jiménez, VP Latam West, leader of this strategic initiative and who will provide details about what the Company is undertaking in order to gain a competitive advantage and be ready to be the most prestigious company within this important market segment.[/vc_column_text][/vc_column][/vc_row][vc_row][vc_column css=”.vc_custom_1592532718733{padding-right: 3% !important;padding-left: 3% !important;}”][vc_row_inner][vc_column_inner][vc_single_image image=”525″ img_size=”full” alignment=”center”][vc_column_text]

Hello everyone, it is a pleasure to reach out to you through this quarterly newsletter. I also hope that each one of you remain safe and healthy, together with your beloved ones. I am certain that we have been all doing our best, regardless the challenging time we are going through, hence the “Under Ground” team has not been the exception!
[/vc_column_text][/vc_column_inner][/vc_row_inner][vc_row_inner][vc_column_inner width=”1/2″][vc_column_text]Since we defined this project as a key strategic initiative for our group, globally speaking, we have been working hard in order to set up a plan that allows us to speed up the development of the capabilities required to take the lead in this market segment. According to our purpose, we are going to focus on introducing cutting-edge technologies and tailored-made products and services, thus turning out the UG operations into safer ones while still saving costs to our customers. As a result of all this, we expect to benefit from the extra value generated, and therefore we need to work thoroughly in pricing, in the sense that we have to be able to link the price to the added-value and not to the cost, I know that it is easier said than done, but it is possible, and we will pursue that goal relentlessly.
So far, we have already identified what our main worldwide targets will be like and learnt the capabilities required to address them. In that sense and, as a first step, we started exploring and assessing the capabilities across the different Enaex´s subsidiaries and we are almost ready.[/vc_column_text][/vc_column_inner][vc_column_inner width=”1/2″][vc_column_text]During the last two weeks, we have been meeting with the Enaex´s Africa team who has joined Enaex just a month ago. Once we learnt what we have as a group, we are going to focus on getting synergies among us while integrating other projects that are being developed like Robotics and wireless EIS, among many others. In the meantime, we have set up three pilots; Australia, Chile and Peru where we are going to test and validate our main assumptions as well as products and technologies already developed, we expect to finish these trials during this year.
Although we are still in an early stage of our roadmap, we are aware that we have gathered a well-experienced and multidisciplinary team from all regions in which we operate in, and this is our main competitive advantage. As I mentioned above, the African team has just joined us last month, bringing to this project amazing capabilities but above all, passion and enthusiasm, welcome again guys!
Finally, I would like to thank the “UG” team for its support and commitment, I am extremely happy to have you all onboard![/vc_column_text][/vc_column_inner][/vc_row_inner][/vc_column][/vc_row][vc_row][vc_column][vc_empty_space][/vc_column][/vc_row][vc_row css=”.vc_custom_1592538942748{background-color: #e1251b !important;}”][vc_column][vc_column_text]

CHILE
Two new important contracts
This has been a special month for Chile with the beginning of two prime contracts. These operations belong to Zaldivar and El Romeral pits, of copper and iron ore respectively.
Thanks to the agreement in Zaldivar’s Mine, Enaex is present in every activity of Antofagasta Minerals (AMSA). This is a huge milestone, since AMSA is one of the major international copper producers, so its fill us with pride that they fully trust in our blasting services in every pit.
Also, we began working in El Romeral Mine, starting commercial relationship with CAP Mining, one of the main pit of iron ore in Chile. On August 3rd, the operations began after 20 days since the launching, when the deal was official.
This century, let’s continue building history![/vc_column_text][vc_separator align=”align_left” border_width=”5″ el_width=”50″][/vc_column][vc_column width=”1/2″][vc_single_image image=”526″ img_size=”full” alignment=”center”][vc_column_text]

NEW AUTOMATIC LINE IN HERY
Our second and new Daveytronic automatic assembly line is installed since the 24 of June 2020 in Héry and is now in the ramp up phase.
It complements the first machine installed in 2015 and will therefore double our automatic assembly capacity.
This project, initiated in 2018, takes into account a number of improvements resulting from the experience gained from the first machine, such as the use of detonators in the 1.4S packaging configuration.
This project was managed in our Engineering department by Matthieu ROZELOT, accompanied by Fabrice NICOLE. Thank you to both of them for their technicality and their involvement in the whole development of this project.
Bravo again !
Francis ADAM – Engineering Department Manager

BRAZIL
LEAN ENAEX BRITANITE: OPERATIONAL EXCELLENCE
Drill and blast design software is a crucial element for Enaex’s operation as it allows our engineers to apply the correct energy (charge design) in the correct place (drill design) at the correct time (initiation timing design) to produce the blasting outcome required by our customers in terms of fragmentation, wall control, vibration control, and dilution control.
In February 2019, a global EMTS workshop took place with the mission to define the drill and blast design software strategy. At the time, multiple softwares were being used by Enaex engineers across the globe. This proved inefficient as it required different training processes, software licences and contracts, and it implied that each site had a different way of working and storing historical information.
After thoroughly evaluating options, including the possibility of developing our own software, O-Pitblast was chosen to be the designated global software. This young company from Portugal offered both the experience and flexibility to suit Enaex’s current and future needs. The capability of O-Pitblast to capture data in the field via tablets, compare against design, and store in the cloud for access to all who required it was a key feature of their software. Also, the data that the system stores is a critical piece of the puzzle for our Enaex Bright® project as well as the functionality of the software that allows to capture data on the field enabling a better QA/QC conciliation.
There have been important developments and improvements in the software, to meet Enaex’s needs and standards. The objective is to co-create, alongside O-Pitblast and incorporating Enaex’s technical knowledge, a software that caters for our needs and those of our clients. The O-Pitblast software is currently being deployed across our operations in Latin America, with Enaex Peru being the first country to implement it in 2018 with great success. Trainings for the design and field capture features are currently underway in multiple mines of Enaex Chile and Brazil, which has meant a great effort and dedication from the EMTS and Operations teams involved.

PERU
Cachimayo Industries donate medicinal oxygen to Cusco
The COVID-19 crisis has overburdened public health systems in many countries. In this scenario, Enaex and its subsidiaries have led the cooperation with the communities with different supplies to fight the virus and take care of the inhabitants in many areas.
Thus, in order to help health workforce, Enaex’s subsidiary in Peru, Cachimayo Industries, sign a deal with the Regional Government of Cusco to deliver medicinal oxygen to the health establishments of the region free of charge for the treatment of coronavirus patients.
This is because Cachimayo Plant produces green ammonium nitrate using water electrolysis, creating high purity oxygen that can be for medical or industrial needs.
Cachimayo Industries pledged to donate a maximum of one thousand cubic meters per day to the hospitals while the state of emergency lasts in the Peruvian nation, assuming the production costs and filling of medical oxygen containers. While the Regional Government agreed to be in charge of the distribution of the supplies.
Prioritizing LIFE and commitment with the communities is in Enaex’s DNA, this crisis we overcome it united!
