JUAN ANDRÉS ERRÁZURIZ
CEO ENAEX

[/vc_column_text][vc_column_text]

Here we are, in the last quarter of 2020, a year that will undoubtedly be remembered in the history of humanity and that has marked the lives of all of us. Our company has not been an exception to the effects of this pandemic and our greatest efforts have been devoted to the protection of people and the value of LIFE. Evidence of this is the fact that we do not have a single case of fatality in our team of more than 5000 people. This is the best news and it fills us with happiness!

[/vc_column_text][/vc_column_inner][/vc_row_inner][/vc_column][/vc_row][vc_row][vc_column width=”1/2″ css=”.vc_custom_1592532718733{padding-right: 3% !important;padding-left: 3% !important;}”][vc_column_text]

In terms of results, we have been particularly affected by the closure of borders and the halt of mining development in countries like Argentina and Peru. Exports from Chile have also decreased considerably. Another factor that has not helped was the dramatic accident in Beirut, which made the processes of importing ammonium nitrate or explosives around the world more complex.

At the same time, growth, one of the four pillars of our strategic plan, has also “caught COVID”. On the one hand, the teams have not been able to travel to support the regions in their investment projects; and, on the other hand, in these times of pandemic, clients have taken refuge in what they know, and therefore it has been complex to conquer new clients or do new business. Later on, Antonio Cyrino, Vice President of Latam East, will elaborate on an important strategic initiative regarding our growth in the United States.

[/vc_column_text][/vc_column][vc_column width=”1/2″][vc_column_text]

In this country, there are additional complexities such as the extreme competitiveness of the market, the slower approval processes, and also the drastic fall in the coal industry due to the irruption of clean energy plants.

However, during 2020 the United States has managed to improve its financial performance, incorporating a new client, Hycroft. In spite of all the adversities mentioned above, we have no doubt that this outcome derives from the permanent work of the team, which has played a fundamental role to introduce us into this important market with its high motivation and hard work.

I do not want to go on any further, but I would like to conclude that this year has been difficult for our company. However, despite this complex scenario, our teams have given their best, and that is why I can only thank you all!

[/vc_column_text][/vc_column][/vc_row][vc_row][vc_column css=”.vc_custom_1592532718733{padding-right: 3% !important;padding-left: 3% !important;}”][vc_row_inner][vc_column_inner][vc_single_image image=”555″ img_size=”full” alignment=”center”][vc_column_text]

ANTONIO CYRINO
VP Latam East

[/vc_column_text][vc_column_text]

Hello to all!
I hope this message finds you and your families safe and in good health in this difficult period the world is going through. For me, it is a pleasure and a privilege to write this Editorial. It is an opportunity to share the incredible experience of leading ENAEX business in the United States. In mid-2018, I took over United States business with the mission of growing it, as decided in our Strategic Planning.

[/vc_column_text][/vc_column_inner][/vc_row_inner][vc_row_inner][vc_column_inner width=”1/2″][vc_column_text]

The strategy we adopted was to look for organic growth, without purchasing new companies and with a focus on medium and small Mining companies and Quarries.

Implementing that strategy has been a challenge in all aspects of a business, starting from people.

The cultural aspects that define the management style in the North American business environment have to be understood, once there are important differences in communication and personal relationships, and their understanding and internalization, are essential for someone to be accepted as a leader, to motivate the team and to successfully lead the business.

Another important, challenging and exciting  point is to position ENAEX as a relevant player in the Blasting Services market. The NA  market is very competitive, mature with  extremely demanding clients.

[/vc_column_text][/vc_column_inner][vc_column_inner width=”1/2″][vc_column_text]

The NA  market is very competitive, mature with  extremely demanding clients.  Market leaders, Orica and Dyno, are integrated in Ammonium Nitrate and have a robust distribution system, with alliances with Distributors and Service Providers, which guarantee low costs and market dominance.

However, that consolidated and successful model  has its gaps. We see important opportunities in Innovation and Customer Intimacy, and  we believe we are capable to position ourselves to fill these gaps, building an unique reputation in the Market.

We already have some successful cases and I am sure we are in the right path to succeed in the tough North American market.

Kind regards!

Argentina
500 women into mining

An alliance between Enaex Argentina SRL and A.MUT.MIN (Spanish acronym for Mining Workers Mutual Association) was held, giving financial support to foster women inclusion in the mining industry.  The project called “500 women into mining” was presented to the Santa Cruz province government in Argentina and will incorporate 500 women to the sancruceña mining activity. The plan consists to prepare 50 women each semester throughout intensive theoretical-hands on training, aiming they become drilling operators and fulfil tasks in underground mining.

The training will last 2 months and it will be online because of the sanitary crisis. The main course will be Introduction to Mining, which is previous the practical lesson they will have to a specific mining task. Also, they will develop welding and drilling abilities, among others.

After this time and through an evaluation, the first 50 women will be selected to start the practical drilling labour for six months, which is going to take place in Puerto San Julián (Santa Cruz Province) thanks to a scholarship.

SOUTH AFRICA
With COVID 19, hygiene is more important than ever: Enaex and Sasol donates water tanks and sanitisers to the Department of Education in Limpopo, South Africa

Enaex Africa and Sasol has partnered with the Limpopo Department of Education authorities to donate and distribute 20 water tanks to deserving schools around the Steelpoort and Burgersfort area. These 1000 litres tanks were donated to assist with drought and water shortages in Limpopo. The companies also donated more than 3100 litres of sanitizers to benefit these schools.

According to the World Health Organisation and UNICEF, 2 in 5 schools around the world lacked basic handwashing facilities prior to COVID-19 pandemic and unfortunately in South Africa there are schools without proper facilities. A key condition for schools to open in South Africa is access to basic handwashing with soap and water. Therefore, without proper facilities, children will be forced to stay home.

The donation of these water tanks and hand sanitizers to the community schools in Limpopo through the provincial government will enable communities and leaners to have access to:

  • Frequent and proper hand hygiene to prevent infection with the COVID-19 virus
  • Water to clean the surfaces touched around the schools to prevent contact with the virus
  • Limit people’s and learners’ movements to water collection points as water would be accessible at near and uncrowded points.

Through this donation, Enaex Africa believes that we have made a small but meaningful difference not just in fighting the spread of COVID 19 but also in ensuring that the children in the communities where we have a presence will be able to continue to learn despite the many challenges of 2020.

BRAzIL
US ANGLO AMERICAN – 2,000 DAYS WITH NO LOST WORKDAY CASES

We always put Life in first place and, as an example of excellence in the practice of that priority value, US Anglo American’s team (Minas Gerais) recently registered the 2,000-day no lost workday case milestone. For Gilmar, a mining technician in the unit who has already been working with us for 5 years, that achievement is a result of the excellent work performed by all the collaborators in the unit, who are always concerned about their own safety and also about the safety of the others.

Congratulations to all employees who allowed for that achievement!

Peru
Industrias Cachimayo: More than 40.000 m3 of oxygen was donated between July and August to Cusco and Apurimac

Since July, Enex’s Peruvian subsidiary has been donating medicinal oxygen to Apurimac and Cusco communities and by the end of August we have given more than 40.000 m3 of oxygen to both regions, which has been a massive help for taking care of the COVID-19 patients.

Likewise, to be able to deliver the supply, improvement works have been done, such us:

  • Manteinment to the oxygen compressor, enabling 32 filling points, in addition to an entire review of the oxygen line.
  • Enabling equipment to improve the pureness of the oxygen, such as a Pd reactor and materials of the production line.
  • Leveling around the plant to improve access

Work was also carried out coordinated with the Regional Government of Cusco to do minor civil works of adaptation to obtain authorization for the filling of the oxygen tanks, like laying walls and false ceilings.

With these actions, we have managed to fight against COVID-19 every day, prioritizing LIFE, the main value that characterized us in Enaex.

TRAINING PROJECT VIRTUAL IMMERSION – LACHAUSSÉE

Thinking of the complexity related to handling the Lauchassée machine and especially of knowledge retaining and learning quality, the Human Resource, production and project areas united to propose efficient, innovative and, mainly, safe qualification. In this regard, training on Virtual Reality was developed. That kind of technology allows simulating everyday situations and possible errors prior to the effective operation of the machine by the operator. We thank all the collaborators who actively participated in the construction of such an important qualification!

Brazil
ENAEX AND VALE INNOVATION WORKSHOP

On 02/Sep, Enaex and Vale united in an online event. The objective was to submit and discuss innovation projects developed by Enaex with a potential to support the sustainable development of Vale’s operations. The purpose of that initiative is to add value by using innovative solutions in rock fragmentation that are able to make operation safer and more productive. Among the subjects addressed, we would like to highlight the following: Mine-iTruck’s unmanned truck, Tagnex, Energex’ High Energy Emulsions, Vertex and also the Low Density Emulsion. Managers in the Procurement sector and in Vale’s North System Operations Vale (S11D, Carajás and Sossego) attended the event together with the Vice-Presidency of Innovation and also managers in Enaex Brasil’s Commercial and Operations Boards. That was the first Innovation workshop between the two companies and specific work groups with representatives of both companies will be formed from that initiative to manage the projects previously selected for each unit. That is Enaex adding value to the client!

Chile
Supporting communities through the training of students

In Calama and Mejillones, we have been more than 15 years collaborating with the youngsters’ education. The Dual Program allows technical professional secondary students to develop theoretical-hands on traineeship in our plants. Beside the employment opportunities, Río Loa and Prillex complex offers educational support with teachers, who are collaborators of the company, which plays a key role in the formation and experience of the students.

Early September, students of the Dual Program of Enaex in association with Emplea Foundation received their Administrative Assistant certificate. Despite the difficulties we have had this year, the pupils gained knowledge thanks to the online schooling and finally had their deserved ceremony.

Congratulations to everyone who is part of this amazing initiative and for innovating for its realization no matter the contingency. Thanks to this program, Enaex bond more with the community delivering tools and knowledge to the future of the countries, the youngsters.

FRANCE
Goodbye Microsoft AX 2009, Welcome to Microsoft D365 in 2021!

Our ERP migration has been now launched, the kick-off took place last 10th of June and the message from Sponsors Esteban Fisher and Eduardo Mejia was positive and enthusiastic. As you may know, upgrading an ERP is always challenging and a big task for the company…. It’s time consuming (a lot of time), involves all the departments and functions of the company and it could change the organization structure. Nevertheless, it contributes to productivity and efficiency gains that generate improvements on the years to come.

IT team and K-Users (representatives from the functions) are on board to lead the project during this year and until the end of the migration. The go-life will occur during the first semester 2021, the target is March 2021!

All the contributors have started to work hard in a very agile and collaborative spirit, we are one and we have the sense of a Team (key of success!).

At this step, user’s stories (user’s interviews on their processes) have been written, workshops have started with our integrator and they are running according to the schedule. In addition, the new IT infrastructure is now ready.

This ERP is more efficient and with new great functionalities, it will take us one step further towards the enterprise 4.0 and will contribute to the digital transformation of the company.

We rely on our values of innovation and entrepreneurship to strive for excellence!
