Tearing Down Borders, an example of Collaborative work.
Agile, collaborative, and transversal work in different areas. All this and more was done by the Vice-Presidency of Chemicals to carry out an unprecedented task for Enaex: sending Ammonium Nitrate to the African continent: specifically Mauritania and Namibia. This mission may seem simple, but all its details make the process much more complex.
These destinations were a challenge that the Vice-Presidency of Chemicals had been aiming to for a few years, as they align with the objective of Enaex of becoming more global. When the opportunity arose, we did not think twice and with a lot of tenacity, we got the interest for our product. With this great news, the complex located in Mejillones began the steps to fulfill the task.
Mauritania is a country in the northwest of Africa. Its coasts can have a humidity of over 80%; and temperatures in the interior of the country – where the iron ore mines are located – can exceed 40°C during the day and drop to 30°C at night, which is characteristic of the Sub-Saharan desert.
“It was impressive to see every person involved in the manufacturing process 100% committed to this task”, says Yasna Grayde, Commercial Manager, “it was a very different articulation where everyone involved contributed with various actions”, she concludes.
Thus, on March 8, more than 7 thousand tons of ammonium nitrate were shipped to Mauritania and Namibia – since this opportunity allowed exporting to this country, making the first shipment to Enaex Africa – setting a historic event for the company.
Undoubtedly, this is an example of service vocation and excellence towards the clients that will pave the path for the future of Enaex. We send a huge recognition to all the people involved in this titanic task!
PERU
Enaex Peru does not stop donating medical oxygen
Coronavirus pandemic has had a serious impact on the health centres in Peru, forcing local authorities to outreach efforts to fight the virus and shortage of medical resources. One of these has been medical oxygen, which Enaex Peru, through Industrias Cachimayo, has donated continuously donated to the local hospitals.
From July to December 2020, Cusco received 80.000 m3 of oxygen, equivalent to 10.000 cylinders that helped the hospitalized patients. On the other hand, Apurimac received 11.000 m3 of medical oxygen, nearly 200 cylinders from August and December.
The second wave attacked with force the country, which encouraged local authorities and leaders of the Peruvian subsidiary to renew the solidarity commitment for the months of January and February. Since then, more than 150 cylinders have been donated each day, achieving a maximum daily capacity of 300.
A huge recognition to Enaex Peru for prioritizing life and helping their communities with such vital but scarce resource in Peru!

Customer Experience rewarded the best Plant Managers
At Enaex, we see our relationship with customers as a partnership, providing solutions with high technological standards and accountability, delivering the best blasting service in the market.
Through 2020, Customer Experience launched the Customer Experience KPIs Management Project aiming to gather data index in every mine site, named CEIx (Customer Experience Index). This was based after a customer survey with five big index: Company recommendation, Customer Effort, Agility before Commitments, Strategic Partner in mining business and Service Satisfaction; along with the monthly business index of Operation, EMTS and Security.
In this first year, three Plant Managers excelled at getting the best CEIx in their segments. In the first segment, Marco Barrera, from Sierra Gorda Plant, achieved 84%; in the second, Cristián Monsalva, El Soldado Plant, reached 83%; and in the third and final segment, Juan Acevedo, Plant Manager of El Salvador, obtained a CEIx of 95%. All of them received a gift card as an award.
Congratulations to all three Plant Managers for representing Enaex’s values and being committed with their clients, helping them to reach their objectives!

Enaex Africa has a remarkable performance in PGM mine
Northam Platinum Limited, the world’s 4th largest producer of PGM’s requested Enaex Africa to assist with the design, timing, consulting and overall oversight of the blasting practices at the Booysendal Platinum mine for their new project, Booysendal Central Merensky 1 (BCM1). Future growth required the mine to develop the Central Merensky complex in order to enable the mining company to deliver on its planned business targets.
The nature of the geology, the critical zone of the Bushveld Igneous complex required smooth wall blasting practices to be applied to ensure that each 3 portal could be mined safely, without excessive over break, risk of falls of ground taking place and protecting the highwall at all cost. This was achieved through utilizing the underground technical services team of Enaex Africa by utilizing the DaveyTronic® UG system combined with; single hole firing of each blasthole, Smoothwall blasting techniques and ensuring all blast design parameters were strictly adhered too.
Due to the great work of Enaex Africa’s employees, the labour planned with 30 blasts in 30 days (1 each day) and thanks to the explosive product performed significantly better than expected resulting, the project ended being executed in only 15 blasts, half of the planned time, without any safety incidents and no damage to the hanging walls and sidewalls of all three portals.

Davey Bickford Eneax (D&S BU) wins two new contracts
Following the tender during the third quarter of last year, the customer Defence Science and Technology Agency (DSTA), a statutory board under the Ministry of Defence of the Singapore Government, informed that Davey Bickford Enaex has been selected for two main items. Firstly, 160km of marked detonating cord and secondly, 10,000 of electric detonators with safety case, a new product to be designed and qualified.
The notification of this contract and particularly, the order of ”electric detonators” is a great step forward for DBE, after trying to get the attention of DSTA in supplies else than our marked detonating cord for a long time. What has really made the difference in this tender has been the value-added safety, which could be perceived by the customer.
Congratulation and let this be the beginning of a great customer relationship!
