Dear Safex Members,
I live in Chile. A country that is located at the convergence of tectonic plates, the Nazca and South American to be more specific. This is a zone of high seismic activity known as the Pacific Ring of Fire.
Although earthquakes are a reality of Chile, the country has developed a solid capacity for risk response and mitigation. This has been possible thanks to the experience accumulated over generations, which has contributed, to a great extent, to reducing their impact and protecting people’s lives. It is a natural phenomenon that we cannot control, but we can mitigate.
In the world of explosives, on the contrary, we have end-to-end control of all processes, which has made me reflect on the reasons why accidents continue to occur in our industry.
A strong earthquake occurs approximately every 10 years. This is a situation that keeps us alert, especially because it can hurt those, we love the most. We are always alert, always prepared. When we talk about our work manufacturing, and handling explosives; the perception of risk can begin to fade. The task is perceived as a routine, and complacency becomes an enemy, overlooking compliance with regulations and procedures.
When faced with a natural disaster, we assume the leadership of the contingency, because the life and well-being of our families hangs in the balance at that moment. In the case of operations, leaders must be role models for their teams and not compromise safety under any circumstances. Leaders in the field, not behind their desk. Being present, watching, listening, and reacting must be daily practice. Life is unnegotiable!
Through generations and painful losses, my country has learned lessons and has implemented a solid capacity for risk response and mitigation to natural disasters. In the same way, those of us who work in this business must act with humility and generosity, learning lessons from others, sharing knowledge, and knowing that the smallest details can put our people and company at risk. This is the reason for Safex to exist. We are a community that builds knowledge through the dissemination of experiences to take care of the lives of those who trust us.

The newly renovated Bohlale Day Care center was launched on 21 June, bringing smiles to the 90 children it caters for.
The center is Enaex Africa’s flagship CSR project, and together with our implementation partner ForAfrika, we made a number of big improvements to help Bohlale and its staff do more for the children under their care.
Some of the improvements include: the renovation of two classrooms and the building of three new classrooms; a new kitchen, sickbay and principal’s office, a borehole, new ablutions with septic tank, a feeding scheme, teacher training and agricultural training.
Bohlale is the first stage in a long-term development strategy for the Ga-Phasha community in Limpopo that will eventually include the neighboring primary school, high school, and tertiary institutions.
“As Enaex Africa our priority is life! Through collaboration with our customers, we have been fortunate enough to work with incredible communities, striving to impact and change lives for the better – going beyond CSR”, Francisco Baudrand.

The enthusiasm to visit Enaex’s “Prillex America” plant by the neighbors of Mejillones has increased in the last time. This, to witness the productive processes in the field and to talk to our employees.
During the last week, two neighborhood councils had the opportunity to visit the chemical complex. The experience was enriching both for the inhabitants of the commune and those who work in the productive complex.
This time it was the turn of the neighborhood council No. 11 “Union”. This delegation made a complete tour of the operational and administrative areas in a period of more than four hours.
Patricia Robles, president of the organization, was grateful for this opportunity to learn more about Enaex through its “Open Doors” program. She highlighted it as a real opportunity for the community to visit the facilities and give their opinion on specific issues.

Enaex Brazil took an important step by adopting new technologies in mobile manufacturing units for underground operations. In June 2023, we delivered to the client JMC Pan American, Jacobina mine, the first truck produced in Brazil with a robotic arm for production blasting events.
“With the Robot Arm, our operations ensure increased safety because the blasters are able to control the equipment remotely, from a safer distance”, explains Danilo Vieira, Commercial Director at Enaex Brazil. “In addition to the safety issue, the equipment favors ergonomics and maintains the levels of productivity achieved with traditional equipment”, adds Daniel Oliveira, Director of Operations and Engineering.
Before the delivery, collaborators from Quatro Barras industrial plant were invited to check out the equipment.

A recent trial of our ground-breaking Plasma product has placed emphasis on Enaex’s cutting-edge approach to innovation and value-added services.
The Plasma product, tested at a Glencore operation in Rustenburg recently, is referred to using a completely different terminology – precisely because it’s not an explosive.
The approach is so novel that Berlinda Mosesane, General Manager at the mine where the testing took place, was initially quite sceptical. “She really was doubtful that the product would work. When the first test broke rock, she was blown away,” says Market Development Manager Allen Steyn with a smile.
“Our first priority was to conduct a proof of concept and show that Plasma could fracture the rock on site. Over the course of testing, we adjusted the drilling design parameters based on the most economic and effective use of Plasma for the type of rock to be fractured,” says Allen.

Enaex Peru continues its commitment to cultural change in the company. The main objective of the PTS 360 Challenge is to strengthen the capacity of supervisors and coordinators in safety management, who will be in charge of leading the actions in the field, mainly in the company’s plants and mining operations.
In this challenge, Safe Work was prioritized as a fundamental element as well as the management of supervisors and coordinators. In addition, the positive impact on safety indicators will be fundamental, since continuous improvement in this line is always sought.
This program is one of the three stages for Cultural Transformation in Peru: TECH, PTS 360, and Culture Keepers. It seeks to have a decisive and sustained impact on the establishment of a “new culture” in our teams.
