Our company has achieved a milestone in the Chilean financial market by successfully completing the first issue of a Sustainability-Linked Bond, for an amount of US$ 104 million, with a 12-year maturity. The company’s offer, unprecedented in Chile until now, generated great interest from institutional investors, with a total demand for UF 3.7 million, equivalent to 1.5 times the available offer.
The highlight of this Sustainability-Linked Bond issue is that it is intrinsically linked to specific emission reduction targets, in line with Enaex’s sustainability strategy. Verification of these targets will be conducted through a Second Party Opinion (“SPO”) provided by Sustainable Fitch, following the annual emissions certification performed by SGS Chile.
Our CEO, Juan Andrés Errázuriz, talked about being the first company to place a bond of this type and stated that “together, and focusing on growing and consolidating an internationalization plan that today places us in a solid position, we will “humanize the mining industry”, being promoters of change that are in tune with the current demands of sustainable development”.
Enaex Peru participated in the Employers for Youth survey, an Ibero-American ranking that rewards the best companies to work for young professionals.
In its 2023 edition, 130 companies in Peru participated, and after going through an evaluation process, Enaex Peru was positioned in 32nd place, which places them in the TOP 35 of the best companies to work for young professionals.
This distinction reflects the commitment that Enaex Peru has acquired to offer a pleasant work environment to young professionals and encourages them to continue working to improve every day.
Enaex Chile has taken a significant step forward with the renewal of key contracts with three important players in the Chilean mining industry: Minera Centinela, Antucoya, and Zaldívar. These agreements, which will be extended for an additional five years, strengthen the bonds and trust with Antofagasta Minerals.
This contract is the largest for the company in Chile and further consolidates Enaex’s position as a fundamental strategic partner in the Chilean mining industry, a crucial sector of the economy.
In addition, since November 1st, the contract with Minera Spence starts to be in force. This contract has a duration of 10 years and constitutes very good news, since the company has resumed commercial relations with BHP.
This is how Enaex Chile can see the fruits of its stronger bonds with its clients.
Shirley Rapelego at Northam and Daphney Nkomo at Grootegeluk are two newly appointed Site Managers. See how they’re blazing a path to greater things.
Shirley’s in charge of a team of around 12 people at Northam. She previously worked as a Site Supervisor, and while that’s prepared her well for her new role, the shift is significant. “As a Site Supervisor, you can call on your Site Manager. As a Site Manager, I face new challenges every day, and it’s up to me to resolve them. I’m in charge and I only ask for assistance when it’s absolutely necessary.”
Daphney’s an explosives engineer who previously worked in the Sales and Marketing team. Multi-disciplined and diversely talented, she’s moved from a customer-facing role to being in charge of a small team. “Working for Mining Operations is certainly a change. There’s a different dynamic serving a customer to managing a team. It helps that I’ve worked closely with Mining Services – I understand their challenges.”
Both Shirley and Daphney are also balancing work duties with family and study commitments. Shirley’s halfway through studying towards a diploma in explosives management, while Daphney’s doing a business diploma, with an eye on tackling a Master of Business Administration (MBA) in the near future.
Aligned with the purpose of helping develop the communities in which we operate, Enaex Brasil has sponsored, in partnership with our clients, socio-environmental projects with positive impacts.
An example is Plotar, in Minas Gerais State, which works with Anglo American and professionally qualifies women in socially vulnerable conditions so that they have a source of income. In another collaboration with Anglo, for the same location, we joined forces to strengthen SOS Educação de Dom Joaquim, which supports students aged 7 to 12 from municipal schools to design a new future. Our contribution is made through the donation of school kits. From this perspective, we also joined the volunteer action called Dia do Bem Fazer, by InterCement, which makes donations of construction materials for renovations of Health Units and Schools, for example.
These are just some of the countless social initiatives we take part in. As a result of our efforts, we generate shared values, with which we strengthen ourselves, expand our support network, and contribute to reducing social disparities in the country.
Our Recognition program already has a place in the culture of Davey Bickford Enaex employees. This program plays an important role in thanking others for their help and recognizing their excellent work. It is a platform where all employees can receive positive and continuous feedback from their own colleagues, improving the work environment.
In this line, during the month of July, the Héry Plant recognized the 16 employees who best represent the Company’s values. The ceremony included special words from the Vice President of Europe & Asia, Esteban Fisher; the Operations Manager, Eric Moreau; and the People Manager, Vera Da Silva.
Mponeng mine is the deepest mine in the world. Working 3 600m underground requires a calm approach and outstanding teamwork.
The journey to level 126 at Mponeng mine takes an hour. One has to first take a lift to level 83 – a ‘mere’ 1 800m from the surface – and then a second lift to level 120. The final two stages to 3 600m underground are completed in chair lifts.
There are drilling and blasting operations, and constant movement of machines and people taking place on every level. It’s hot and dusty. “You get used to it. It just becomes part of your everyday,” says Philip Taljaard, who’s been working at Mponeng for 11 years. He spends up to 12 hours underground during every shift.
As a Mine Chargehand, Philip’s role is to see that the Devex™ pump units are working properly and maintained regularly, and that any problems with the units are fixed promptly.
Every shift starts at five o’clock in the morning with a safety briefing and planning for the day ahead. Site Supervisor Joseph Mashishi is responsible for these briefings and for the overall safety of the 10 people on his team. He’s underground at least once a week.
There are about 700 people underground at any one time, spread out among the different levels. Our team of people at Mponeng showcase the attributes we emphasise at all our sites – professionalism, teamwork and the ability to work effectively and safely in challenging conditions.
A new product on the Brazilian market, Densiex UG, was developed to meet the needs of customers seeking better damage control in terms of explosive energy, such as reducing vibration generated by blasting events. With excellent results achieved, mainly operational simplicity and a low final density of 0.60 g/cm3, Enaex Brasil managed to considerably reduce overbreak and underbreak, as well as the reduction of scaling in tunnels. In addition to creating safer working conditions, there were also important operational and financial gains for the client.
The agility and assertiveness in the development of Densiex UG also deserve the spotlight, a result of the excellent collaborative work and great commitment of collaborators from different areas of the company, which focuses on finding solutions that add value to our customers.
