OVERHAUL 2024: A GREAT PAUSE

Enaex not only provides blasting services globally but is also a leader in the production of ammonium nitrate in Chile and Latin America.

This is how our Chemicals business becomes very relevant for our company, both in terms of results and business strategy: “Today we are a relevant player for the industry. We have the capacity to produce 820,000 tons of ammonium nitrate annually, which allows us to differentiate ourselves from our competitors by providing a reliable supply solution in the region”, says Claudio Yévenes, Chemicals Vice-president.

One of the world’s largest producers of low-density ammonium nitrate is our Prillex America plant, located in Mejillones, Chile. This plant not only stands out for its production level, but also because it has always worked based on the value of our obsession, Excellence.

Today, Prillex is working at full speed, since on February 19 they have scheduled an Overhaul, a scheduled major maintenance stoppage, where one of the important objectives is to make the intervention to the turbomachine of Panna 4, along with other interventions to equipment that require it.

“It will be 35 continuous days where our teams have been prepared to work with EXCELLENCE: Generating results in the execution of each task. Rigorous in our way of acting, Efficient in the use of our resources, complying with the Budget, accountable for every situation that arises, and taking charge of resolving it and of course, respecting the time established for each intervention”, explains Claudio Yévenes.

We wish much success to all the teams participating in this GREAT pause!

BUSINESS IS BOOMING IN NAMIBIA

The Namibian Mining Expo proved to be an excellent showcase for Enaex Africa to explore new opportunities in the region.

The event, which included a Mining Conference and Suppliers’ Platform, was attended by Namibian President Hage Geingob and members of his cabinet, including the Minister of Mines and Energy, Tom Alweendo, who was one of the guest speakers.

Enaex was the only explosives company attending the expo. It provided an ideal opportunity to grow our profile in Namibia, share our approach to innovation and new-generation solutions, and establish Enaex Africa as the supplier of choice.

CERRO NEGRO MINE LEEKY FEEDER BLASTING TEST SUCCESS

Client Newmont’s Cerro Negro mine has taken a crucial step in excellence by successfully completing testing of the Leeky Feeder net blasting system at the Silica Cap and Bajo Negro portals. Precise configurations were carried out, such as the Modem 1000 for surface firing and the Modem Case 2009 for inside the mine.

During blasting simulations with Dummy Box, the signal was monitored, achieving a stable 5/5 communication near the Shelter in both portals. The results have been excellent, boosting operational safety and productivity. Further adjustments will be implemented to optimize the system.

The client expressed great satisfaction with the product and service, highlighting significant improvements. These achievements consolidate Cerro Negro’s position as a reference in mining innovation, and our continued effort to humanize the mining industry in pursuit of excellence!

INNOVATIVE SOLUTIONS BY ENAEX BRASIL WERE HIGHLIGHTED AT A BLASTING EVENT IN CHILE

In November, Enaex Brasil participated in the 14th edition of “Blasting Day”, held by Asociación Chilena de Ingenieros Explosivistas (ASIEX), in Antofagasta, Chile. The technical event, focused on rock blasting, featured the presentation of three articles from Enaex Chile, two from Enaex Brasil, and one from Enaex Peru.

One of Enaex Brasil’s cases addressed Densiex, a low-density emulsion that reduces vibration and the generation of fines in open-pit mines, in addition to replacing heavyweight detonating cords in underground mines, providing greater safety and reducing rework.

The second case presented Daveytronic Swift, an electronic initiation system for the development of underground galleries and tunnels, which promotes an increase in advance rates through blasting, a reduction in excessive overbreak, and a reduction in scaling time. Furthermore, it allows remote firing through wireless communication.

UMK BONDS GET STRONGER

Our team at United Manganese Kalahari (UMK) faced some serious issues. They went the extra mile and the results were fantastic.

The team at UMK, particularly Thami Motaung, Site Manager: Enaex Africa – Northern Cape and Kgosi Mashiane, Explosives Engineer UMK ,were recently given an award by the mine for their recent efforts to resolve a number of major issues. Collapsing holes due to the geology of the site, meant extra explosive was needed. This in turn led to Enaex being accused of wasting explosives. The poor fragmentation meant oversize blast material and tighter digging conditions which slowed down loading rates.

Something had to be done and so Thami and Kgosi put their heads together. “One of the main things we did was implement a daily QA/QC system for supervisors and blasters, we collaborated closely with the mine planning department and we introduced a daily progress report,” says Thami.

UMK is a flagship customer for Enaex Africa in the Northern Cape. A new three-year deal was awarded to Enaex in January.

“We were very happy to receive this award. It shows the importance of communication and planning between all stakeholders. Our focus is the customer, and we always strive for excellence in what we do,” says Kgosi.
