OUR STRENGTH: INNOVATION AND ENTREPRENEURSHIP

On September 29th, more than 1200 people from a dozen countries and service and production plants connected via streaming for the launch of the value Our Strength: Innovation & Entrepreneurship. In an event full of motivational storytelling, the start was given to a period of time where everyone is invited to live innovation, open their minds, make a difference and be inspired by customers to find solutions to resigned problems.

After some opening remarks by Enaex CEO, Juan Andrés Errázuriz, the Vice Presidents of Innovation & Star-Ups, Miguel Ángel Peña; Customer Experience and Digital Transformation, Pablo Wallach; and HR & Sustainability, Patricia Valenzuela, discussed –together with Juan Andrés- the importance of this value and how each of the collaborators has the capacity to innovate from their role.

In addition, they stressed the importance for the innovation process to generate trusting environments through respect for diversity and collaboration. In this regard, our agility and customer focus must go hand in hand with an entrepreneurial spirit, where perseverance to solve problems and maximize the business is the north.

This conversation gave way to the international speaker on innovation, Founder and President of Innspiral and Magical Startups, Iván Vera, who in just over 30 minutes showed that innovation is a possible for everyone, not only for geniuses, calling to seek solutions to resigned problems and not to slow down the transformation speed that the company has had in the last 10 years.

Everyone is invited: innovation is for everyone! #LiveIt #ExtendYourMind #LetsBeTheDifference #CustomerInspired. Our Strength is Innovation and Entrepreneurship!

MANAGEMENT CONTROL AND IT JOIN FORCES IN IMPORTANT BUDGET INNOVATION

In an example to follow of the value Our Strength: Innovation and Entrepreneurship, the areas of Management Control and IT worked together to create a new digital platform so that all Cost Centers in Chile, Peru and South Africa can build a budget in a collaborative and easy-to-access way, leaving behind the Excel spreadsheet.

The new online planner does not require a VPN, which allows many more people to access it and, since it is not a massive Excel spreadsheet, it only relies on personal Internet access to run. Likewise, the database update is faster and the loading of the resources is in real time, thus meeting the budget needs of three large subsidiaries in a more optimal way.

Ezomar Uzcategui, from the Prillex Plant, points out that “it is a breakthrough that facilitates the loading and revision of the budget formulation. It is dynamic, ensures that the data is updated in real time, and also gives you the advantage of backing up your information in XLS”. In turn, Markiño Loayza, from Peru, comments that, by not changing the original Excel formats, the uploads are simpler and do not require coming up with new formats and that “it has brought with it a change of paradigms to which we have to adapt”.

Franco Traverso,  Manager of Management Control, values that this new planner will make the creation of budgets a more agile and independent process for each country. “I would like to highlight the fundamental role played by Juan Munita and Carlos Ortiz (IT), together with Eduardo Toro and Eva Ossandon’s team in this project, always seeking to apply today’s technologies to make the task of internal clients simpler,” concludes Franco.

ENAEX BRAZIL TESTS BUTTERFLY PROJECT AT THE CUSTOMER PEDRA BRANCA ESCAVAÇÕES

The Electronic Initiation team of EMTS Brazil, together with the client Pedra Branca Escavações, carried out tests on the new Daveytronic Swift –from the Butterfly Project- during September. A total of 14 shots were fired with this new electronic initiation system developed for blasting in underground mining.

At the hydroelectric plant, located in Alto Farías, Santa Catarina state, the objective of this test was to evaluate the performance of the new product and compare the results with regular processes. After the test time, the Brazilian EMTS team concluded that the Daveytronic Swift brought a positive performance in all evaluated points: it optimized the feed rate, reduced overbreak and underbreak, and substantially improved the safety of the operation –in line with our purpose of humanizing mining.

Fernando Golin, the client’s consultant, highlighted the benefits identified: “the product is easy to use and our team learned quickly. In addition, the average advance rate was very good and the quality of the excavation edge improved greatly due to the precision of the new detonator –a very important item in explosives engineering- just to mention a few of the advantages of the new system”.

Meanwhile, Rafael Serrão, coordinator of EMTS Brazil Electronic Initiation Systems, commented that “the results of the Daveytronic Swift were surprising, which makes us look forward to 2022 with great expectation to obtain new customers –especially in underground mining- and show them the value that this innovative product can deliver to operations”.

ENAEX BRAZIL JOINS THE OPEN INNOVATION PROGRAM BRDE LABS

During 2021, Enaex Brazil joined an open innovation program for the first time, called BRDE Labs. The objective is, together with local technology companies, to find solutions to productive and digital transformation challenges.

This initiative comes from the Regional Bank for the Development of the Extreme South, and aims to accelerate the development of innovation in southern Brazil. Through the initiative, Enaex Brazil organized five internal challenges to which more than 40 companies from all over the country presented solutions.

Of these 40 companies, four startups were chosen to carry out a proof of concept (POC) between October 18 and December 3, 2021. These selected POCs emphasized the improvement of both quality and agility in the preparation of fire plans and blasting services; increased productivity in the different plants thanks to cloud monitoring of emulsions levels in storage tanks; efficiency in the management of electricity costs and investments; and increased productivity of various inspection/audit routines.

After validating the solutions presented, the plan for 2022 is to expand Enaex Brazil’s participation in similar initiatives in search of solutions for different challenges of the company.
