At JMC Mining, an operation of Pan American Silver in the state of Bahia, Enaex Brasil maintains a Service Unit dedicated to underground operations. Historically, blast initiation was carried out using detonating fuses with local activation. In order to reduce personnel exposure to risk, the operation opted for the use of electronic detonators with remote activation. Unlike open-pit environments, the underground setting imposes restrictions such as the absence of direct radio communication, requiring solutions suitable for confined spaces.
In October 2025, based on a diagnosis of operational conditions conducted jointly by EMTS (Enaex Mining Technical Solutions), Operations, and the client, a project aimed at optimizing blasting operations was launched, focusing on strengthening operational safety and digitalizing processes.
The solution uses DaveyTronic equipment integrated with Leaky Feeder and Wi-Fi networks, enabling remote blasting and significantly reducing team exposure to risk areas. The project is currently under implementation, with gradual expansion of field application and continuous training of teams. At present, 35% of blasts are carried out via Leaky Feeder and/or Wi-Fi, while the remainder still occurs through blasting wires, ensuring that personnel remain in a safe location during operations. The goal is to reach 100% implementation by May 2026.
Since the beginning of the project, more than 340 blasts have already been performed using remote initiation, representing an important advance in safety, technology, and the modernization of blasting operations.
